It’s Official! February was the coldest month on record!
After 37 days of freezing temperatures, the cold streak came to an end for parts of southern Ontario Tuesday night. Places like Toronto reached temperature values above 0C — a relative warmth not felt in the region since January 27. The entire month of February stayed frigid, leading to the third longest cold streak in the area. The cold streak led to places like Toronto and Hamilton breaking old records from 1937 for coldest February, while many more far exceeded the average temperatures for the month.
Let’s not celebrate too quickly however. Cold temperatures are expected to make a return this evening. Thursday and Friday are forecasted to feel as cold as -17C during the day.
We can take comfort in knowing that spring is only 16 days away!
